As I embark on the journey of starting my own online school, I find myself reflecting on the changing landscape of homeschooling and education in general. It's been over a decade since I went through the rigorous process of attaining regional accreditation – a feat that seemed crucial for homeschool students back then. But times have changed, and so have the needs of homeschool families.

In recent years, I've noticed a significant shift. Homeschool students no longer necessarily need to attend a regionally accredited school to succeed. Their credits transfer smoothly if they transition to public school, and colleges readily accept their self-issued diplomas and transcripts. It's refreshing to see this evolution, where the stringent requirements and scrutiny of the past have given way to flexibility and a growing recognition of parents' abilities to educate their children effectively.

While this loosening of requirements is undoubtedly beneficial for homeschool families, it's prompted me to reassess my own goals and strategies for my upcoming online school. The question looms: do I really need to pursue regional accreditation?

As I ponder this, I'm examining my overall program objectives. One key aspect I'm considering is providing opportunities for learners to earn college credits. Additionally, at this stage in my career, I'm mindful of securing passive income for retirement while also leaving a lasting legacy in the field of education that I hold so dear.

An intriguing alternative that's caught my attention is the possibility of pursuing accreditation for individual courses rather than an entire school program. This approach aligns well with my expertise in curriculum and instruction, allowing me to leverage my skills to benefit others in a more targeted way.

I'm excited about the possibilities ahead and eager to adapt my vision to meet the evolving needs of today's learners. As I continue to develop my online education program, I'm committed to striking a balance between academic rigor, flexibility, and practical value for students.
